    Full synthetic vs Coventional oil.

I am thinking of switching to a "true" Full Synthetic motor oil, either ester based or pao. I am think of using Motul 8100 which is ester based. Any thoughts. What is every1 else using? any known problems with ester or pao based true synthetics in Subaru engines?

I've been using Mobil 1 5W-30 for 6+ years and 51k+ miles in my 2004 WRX bought new with zero issues. Hope that helps.

I've always run conventional oil in my cars, never had a problem, a few of them have had high mileage and still ran fine when i sold them...

mind you I like to change my oil very often, probably more often than most people(3000-4000km), and i don't track my car or drive it very abusively

Same here but I have 87k on my 06 WRX (4 years), no issues at all and very little oil loss.

Yeah.. I was using Mobil 1 5w-30 Synthetic for nearly eight years and I had the mysterious vanishing oil trick. I would check the level once a week, and for several weeks it would never go down, then all of a sudden it would be a full quart low. Since I switched to Rotella T6 I have experienced ZERO consumption. And it seems to keep my oil pressure up a little steadier, probably because it's not thin piss water like Mobil 1 5w-30(no offense).

T6 isn't really a "true" synthetic, but it sure does work great, and that's what matters.

I've been using German Castrol Syntec (0w-30; also called European Formula) since I realized my local AutoZone stocks it. Must check the label to make sure it's made in Germany.

Great stuff according to Bob is the Oil Guy.
