The leading reason for smelling burning oil is burning oil. Find the leak and fix it. It may not be easy if the leak is very close to, say, the exhaust, since it will burn off rapidly. Keep looking, it's there somewhere. Even leaks under the front cover can generate a burning smell depending on how and how far the oil travels. The cheapest oil leak of all is from the drain plug due to an overused and overtorqued crush washer. If that's not it, it's going to be something else. The turbo oil line, the front seals, the valve covers etc.
