    Is Cobb Stage 2 safe?

I have a 2002 Wrx auto trans with 89000 miles on it. My question is how much power can I make on a stock trans? I was looking into Cobb stage 2 tuning, "cat" down pipe and full exhaust. It turns out about 50 added HP in the mid-range.

The Cobb Stage II is safe. Cobb box tunes are conservative tunes, you'll be fine! Make sure you get a catless uppipe as well, very important mod for our 02-03's!

The basics still apply. If you have intake leaks etc. it will knock just like any thing else (including stock) in my experience.

How do you pass the smog test without a cat?

Get a catted downpipe. The cat in your uppipe isn't needed (and can be dangerous if it gets sucked into the turbo!). But a catted downpipe or high-flo catted exhaust should keep things in check.

From all accounts here on the forum it's fine. So grab your downpipe (don't forget the up-pipe), ap, and enjoy!
One day I'll have a truly awesome sig

Thanks' for all the input. The only thing stopping me now is my pocket book. I’m doing a front brake job with ceramic pads and upgraded rotors this weekend. Next is the Cobb stage 2. I might have to install it one piece at a time HaHa.
