So what should I expect if I turn off the traction control in my '10 WRX Hatch? All stock except for the floor mats.

Yeah, this is my first new car and going to be a DD. I'd rather know what I'm getting into before I destroy an axle.

Traction control just keeps your tires from spinning out on you when you're accelerating. It's rather boring IMO, but you're not going to break anything by turning it off. If Subaru didn't want you turning it off for the safety of the vehicle, they wouldn't make it that easy.

Just be careful if you're going around a corner with it off and hitting the gas.

If you turn it off, you'll have as good of traction control as a dog on hardwood flooring..

So my friend said when his went out on slippery roads.

So when I take this to the Driver Education course my in laws go to all the time and I take a few laps around the track with em, I should leave it on so I don't spin out on Turn 10 like they claim every WRX/STI does.

I really want to beat their Caymans. They have an 07 Cayman and 07 Cayman S.

That's up to you, I prefer to drive with no assistance other than ABS, but that's just me. If you find that your times are better with it on than off, use it.
