front defroster w/ hizzzzz sound

Hey guys,

I have a 02 wrx and everytime I use the front window defroster I hear a hizzzzzzz (the best way i can think to describe it) and it drives me nuts. help please!

you need your defroster replaced. lol
just check for the wiring , that must be short circuiting while you turn it over

Are you talking about an actual defroster on the front window, or are you talking about the defrost settting on you HVAC controls?

If it's on the HVAC controls, you probably have something lodged in the vents somewhere that's creating noise when the air is going there. Try cleaning them out or taking it somewhere to have them professionally cleaned.

Does it happen on all fan speed settings? Does it happen when its only in the defrost position? Just the sound you made makes me think maybe something got in the blower motor like a leaf or something or something is in the defrost vents..Also check your drive belt for the AC compressor fore as i am sure you know when you select defrost it kicks your AC compressor on to keep it lubricated in the winter months...

Thanks guys! Yes it happens at all fan speeds and only in the defrost position and it comes out of the vent by the front passanger side. The drive belt is good. I'll take the blower apart and see if there's anything in the vents or blower.
