turbo rattle?

im new to this so here goes..... i have a 02 wrx wagon and i just resently started hearing a rattle noise coming from the turbo. i used a long screw driver to listen to the noise. it sounds like metal balls freely moving around. im not sure if its something im hearing further down in the down pipe or what.... some other threads were saying something about the heat shields but im not sure. im worried because my boost has been inconsistant lately and its throwing the light(only flashes once then goes away) not sure if it has anything to do with it. im just wondering if that can be from shaft play or bad waist gate or a crack possibly. please help!

Im assuming your talking about the check engine light coming on? The next time you see it go get the code pulled or pull the code if you have a scanner. How many miles are on this vehicle? I would def. be ruling out a loose heat shield before you go digging into things...
