    engine problem??

Ok, so I really have no idea what this could be but heres my situation. If I am in second or third (or any gear really-second and third just make it really obvious) and I start from around 2.5K and then gas it, it will climb to about 3K then shoot up to 4K then back down to about 3.5K and be normal again. Its just when I start in a gear under 3K and go past it it shoots up to 4 then back down to 3.5 then climbs normally. Can someone please help and explain whats going on

Well i dont really notice it that much in first...its definitely not as dramatic but i think it may still do it, it just climbs faster in first as it is.

Sounds like your clutch. Do you have a manual tranny?

try this..when your cruising..punch the gas..do the RPM's shoot up but speed doesnt really increase?... keep in mind It is extremely difficult to diag. things over the internet however as mentioned from the information you provided it does sound like your clutch is slipping, so yes from the info. you've provided I would be buying a new clutch..If you relativly light on mods or the car is stock an OEM clutch/pressure plate should be fine...you will also prob want to get the flywheel resurfaced or get a new one..at least I would...

What kind of website would you guys suggest to look for these parts...and will spending a bit extra money on a little nicer of a clutch be worth it to me?

Is this a USDM car? Are you located in the US? If it is and its a WRX (non STI) I would definitely be sticking with the stock replacement clutch regardless of upgrades/goals with the vehicle. With the stock USDM 5MT, I personally would always stay with the stock clutch. ( I learned the hard way by stripping the 2nd gear teeth off the mainshaft and that was still with the stock clutch...lol).
