    Unhappy Engine problems! please help!!

My car was having problems and the engine started making noise. We think it's the rods in the engine. How do i check the engine rods? Preferably without having to pull the whole engine out. Are there any shops near Riverside, CA, that do work on Subaru's and aren't overpriced?

What kind of noise was it making? Was there a loss of power? Is the engine still capable of running?

Rods are not something you can look at and inspect easily.

What kind of symptoms/noises are you hearing? If you think you spun a rod bearing, you can pull the oil pan and inspect for metal (bearing material)in it. You then can try moving the rod ends and if it's spun badly enough, it will move side to side on the crank. More info will help us point you in the right direction.

the only way to try pin pointing the noise is to pull the car on a set of ramps and climb under it and listen to were the noise is coming from the loudest to listen for rod knocking you can use a screw driver put it to the bottom of the oil pan and to your ear and listen closely to which rod sound the loudest or not its just like useing a stethiscope the most shop mechanics have
