Tranny problems. Hard to go into gear and no nuetral?

Hey peeps. I need some help.

I just changed out my block and my mechanic put everything back and the car starts and everything just fine.

But he is saying that it is hard to get into the gears and that it is like there isn't a neutral. When he trys to put it in neutral it goes into 5th or Reverse.

What could be the problem?? Pls any help I can't afford any more money on this car so I am hoping it is a little fix. Could it be mounting issues on the tranny, or anything to where the shifter is or the bushings?

The tranny worked fine when I messed up my block so I don't get it.

"No neutral" may imply either a problem with the linkage or a problem with the throw-out bearing.

Ok. How much would it cost normally to fix this problem?? parts & labor.
So my tranny and clutch would still be good?

Also maybe I should throw this in there. The last mechanic that worked on my car that tried taking the motor off the tranny couldn't get it off and was jerking at it after he thought he took out all the bolts. I forgot which bolt is holds the motor onto the tranny.

Cost will vary depending on what's at fault and the prevailing labour rates in your area. Shop around. The previous mechanic may have not removed the retaining "pin." This is a common stumbling point.

Ok Ill ask him how much. My last question is if it is the throw out bearing then can I just buy that part and replace it or would I have to replace the whole clutch???

Im on a budget and this actually didn't play a part in my budget which sucks.

    His reply should be "free".

The logic goes something like this:
It functioned properly before you worked on the car.
    You worked on the car.
    It no longer functions properly.
Therefore, something you did caused it to stop functioning.
You f***ed it, you fix it.

At least, that's how I'm seeing it.
