    I didn't mean you had to do it, have them take out the motor and look at it before you chunk down for a new one. They have to take it out anyway right?

    The shop quoted me at $917 for the install.... I just need to find the motor...

    Ouch, yeah the tbelt service is to be done at 105k. This is the unfortunate way of learning why to buy a car with past service records ensuring everything has been performed.

    I know the EJ22T was but didn't think the newer ones would be any different here/there?

    They are OBD-II after like '98 or so according to what I just read.

    More I think about it IIRC the JDM EJ205 is higher compression (and had much nicer bits inside too) hence needing a tune (or higher octane). You would also have AVCS but it won't work unless you get a JDM ECU and wire up the valve control.
