    hood wont close.

hi i just put in a perrin tmic and its a little too big i guess. i have the stock wrx scoop splitter with the sti scoop, and when i try to close it it hits and wont close.

Is it safe to just take the splitter off and have nothing in the scoop?

Try messing with the stock brackets that the TMIC sits on....

I wouldn't take the splitter OFF.... especially in this heat....

You can, but I wouldn't. You're gonna need a new splitter anyways to use that TMIC properly as even if it did close you'd only be drawing outside air on a portion of it.

I had the same problem when i got my spearco TMIC. Is it just hitting the rubber bellows, or is it big enough that its actually hitting the metal of the splitter?

You have a couple options, but for now my vote is you take it off, modify it with a dremel/strong tin snips/hacksaw and then put it back on. When you have more time get some alluminum ducting and make your own splitter.

MAKE SURE the metal splitter does not directly make contact with your TMIC. From vibrations etc it can eat into your intercooler's soft aluminum.

i think im going to take it off for the time being. its not very hot here in MN, like 80 tops. i'll try to modify it, i dont feel like buying a new one yet. i'll have to make the inlet of the splitter larger cuz as brfatal said its only letting a select amount of air actually get to the intercooler.

Maybe if i see a used one i'll make an offer but for now a DIY splitter will suffice. is there any hazards to running no splitter or a bigger splitter in the winters or any other conditions?

The rubber liner is not the whole problem. It's the entire splitter. Even the metal part is restricting how much the flow of air because it's not the right size. You will need a new splitter.

And air takes the path of least resistance, and that means around the intercooler and not thru it. It won't be working the way it should even in the cold. Your engine bay still gets hot.
