ok, so you know how the rpms will drop just below idle then raise back up if you, rev your engine or something? well mine are dropping REALLY low like down to 100 ish. Sometimes even low enough that it dies, this has been happening frequently all of a sudden. Any ideas?

thanks! Gonna run some seafoam through it this weekend and I'll check the air and fuel filter. I just checked the MAF. Thanks for the tips!

so I ran the seafoam through her and it didn't seem to help. Recharged the K&N and I'm pulling the throttle body and cleaning it tonight.
It's wierd because the car seems fine when I'm driving, then I go to slow down to turn in a driveway or stop at a stoplight and it just dies when the rpms drop. And its not throwing a CEL so I can't get any codes to go off of...![]()

So i just bought a 04 WRX, and love it...except that it dies when I slow down to turn, etc after the engine gets warm. Read other posts, and I have already cleaned the injector, the AICV, checked for vacuum leaks, and all were ok. I cleaned the MAF sensor. I tried removing the MAF while it was running and it died...i did the reverse and disconnected the MAF, started the engine, and it idled @ 1k RPM. Reconnceted the MAF, and it went down to the normal 750, and then it bogged down like normal, and jumped back up to 750. It doesnt stall out everytime i slow down to turn, but about 75% of the time it does. I'm almost convinced that the MAF is malfunctioning, rather than just being completely dead, but want input before I spend 220 bucks on a sensor. There's no subaru dealership or repair shop within almost 150 miles from where I live, and I am DESPERATE!
this issue can also be caused by a lightweight flywheel or a lightened pulley.
Make sure the air box cover is correctly installed. There are two tabs on the right side that should go in slots in the air box. It takes a little effort to get them in. It's easy (for me, at least) to clip the cover in place incorrectly. That's what was causing my stalling & surging idle issues.
still happening.... I can't figure it out and its pissin me off!!!
When its just idling its fine, so I rev the engine it drops back down to 1000rpm, then drops to idle, but drops down to like 100 before coming back up to 500. Doesn't die. I'm thinking that when I'm on the brakes, its drawing enough power to pull down just enough to kill it.... or maybe I'm stupid... I dont know

I don't know about your model year but the MAF on my '07 is the same part as my wife's '04 Sienna. If nothing else works, you may be able to try a different MAF without buying one.
