I started a thread in April regarding my son's scooby blowing out blue smoke.
Most replied that it sounded like the turbo.
After a lot of idiot mechanics.

We took it to a specialist. It was discovered that it has cracked two pistons. So a full re-built was started. New forged pistons to be fitted after a 1mm skim on heads. All bearing replaced new steel connecting rods fitted.

This was an WRX import, and the company doing the work were puzzled that the engine had a RA inclosed block. It will be returned hopefully next week, and now for a run-in on mineral oil for 1000 miles. Just goes to show that not all on the forum is that genned upon subaru's.

No offense, we went off what you told us.....

You told us you went to a mechanic and he said there was a "95% chance" that it was the turbo. We were trying to help you without actually being able to look at the car.

like brfatal said, forum members can only contribute based upon the information thats provided. we cannot see your car in person to fully diagnose the issue. we do the best we can based off of what we have to work with

You almost seem upset that a car forum that have never personally seen the car lead you in the wrong direction.

Trouble shooting anything is hard enough...you are really taking your chances with asking for help and trying to explain the issues with text.

For some reason, I don't think that you're going to get any sympathy. Everyone on here has the best wishes for everyone else's car. We are a very tight Subaru community, and try our damnedest to assist any other Subaru owner. If your son has blown pistons, he probably trashed his car as it was, and I have no remorse.

Uhhh........I guess we will give you your f-ing money back?We gave you free advice OVER THE FRIGG'N INTERNET?Ever tried to diagnose a car over the internet?Works pretty well.We tried to help you the best we could.Glad you appriciated it.............and by the way,reading comprehension fails you.This guy suggested a compression test back in your very first post which probably would have helped correctly diagnose your problem if you would have listened to him.
Power lost and Blue Smoke

These guys are right; it does sound like the turbo, but I'm surprised no one told you to do a compression test first just in case. I would do a compression test on all cylinders just to make sure you're getting a good amount of PSI in the motor before you go tearing out the turbo. At least do it for the process of elimination, as a compression test is very cheap (or free if you have a compression gauge). If all cylinders are getting the right amount, then you've narrowed it down to the turbo.

It's worth it to check, because it could be rings or valve seals...

To the OP- #1 this is a forum where people try to help other people not everyone on here is an experienced Subaru Mechanic #2 It is EXTREMELY difficult to diagnoise a noise/smell/sight of smoke over the internet without touching/seeing the vehicle...SO take from that what you will...
