Model: Impreza WRX
Trim: Sedan, Limited
Problem: Backing up way too impatiently earlier today because some jackass was blocking my alley with his truck, I knocked over one of those big blue plastic recycling garbage cans with my passenger side front door outside mirror, and sustained a crack in the black plastic part of the mirror assembly at its extreme extent. The crack is cosmetic, and limited to the plastic housing (the mirror glass is ok) but big enough that I would like to have it fixed (I like to keep my wrx as pristine as possible, like I'm sure you can all identify with).
Efforts thus far: Concluded that I have to buy the whole assy because the housing plastic is not sold alone. MSRP 165, saw it available at a parts website for 125, but not in the right color. Have obtained for reference the outside mirror relevant pages of the service manual for an 04, but should be the same procedures. Say the whole door trim has to come off the access the attachments and wires. Local dealership service dept just quoted me 220 for the part (laughable) and 165 for the labor. My other shop is looking into it, she's not sure whether the assy comes painted or not, should have a quote from them today.
Questions: Should I attempt to disassemble and patch this plastic crack myself with crazy glue? Or should I have the whole assy replaced? What site would you use to buy the part online, supposing I can get it cheaper than from a shop? Should I use a shop for the labor or do it myself, or pay someone to do it, does it sound profoundly easy?
Looking for any helpful advice.. Thanks.
