The turbo heatshield ? You can take it off from the top of the engine bay.... 3 minutes.... You are putting it back on afterwards, right ?

Well, if it is the heatshield then more than likely it's going to be the lower bottom part closest to the firewall that is bouncing up and down on the exhaust housing or DP. I had the same issue.

I left it bolted on, grabbed the part that was knocking, and just gently but firmly pulled upwards slowly until it bent up and away from the contact point.

The other location it may be hitting is on the side of the heat shield which knocks against the compressor side of the turbo...you'll just have to narrow down the location with your ear. Fix is the same though.

If you have a CAI...don't rule it out as the noisemaker...the STI block knocks my damn AEM 65mm against the fender wall (even though it's bolted down tight) everytime I start the car...I've still got stock WRX mounts though so it's moving more than it should. Anyway, just one more place to check.
