    Question Loud Tick Noise

    Hi guys,
I'm getting a strange loud ticking sound, sort of like two metal plates colliding or banging each other. It happens when the car starts moving when I gently let out the clutch while in reverse, taking foot off the gas while in 2nd gear, and shifting from 2nd to 3rd gently with little of gas. What I hear is a single tick as if something was loose. It's pretty annoying and embarrassing, any ideas? Stock 2005 WRX, 30K miles.

Thanks for the reply, everything looks secured under the car, I'm pretty sure that the sound comes from front diff or close to it . I have replaced rear diff fluid today. I should be getting Redline Shockproof gear oil soon so we will see if that going to help my transmission/front diff. I didn't read the whole thread. It is really long.

I recommend rear diff bushings and transmission bushings. It's not perfect but definately better.

    Found The Cause

    Hi guys,
I finally found out what's making the noise, looks like it's a broken tie-rod and the boot above it where I found grease all over the place, here's a video:

It's very loud. When driving the car it sounds like the sound is coming out of the center diff, that got me scared. Easy way to test it is to put your car in gear and try to rock it back and forth. Now I need to find a cheap replacement part, any pointers?
