    Unhappy Hit and run

WELL, TODAY IS NOT MY DAY.

AS I GOT OUT OF WORK THINKING THAT I WASN'T GOING TO HAVE ANY MORE HOLD UPS. AS I WALKED OUT OF WORK I FOUND MY REX BENT OUT OF SHAPE. TO BE EXACT MY DRIVER DOOR WAS MUSHED IN. IT GOT A FREAKING HIT AND RUN IN THE PARKING LOT!! NO INFO ON MY WINDSHIELD, NO PAINT SCRAPES OF THE OTHER CAR.... JUST MY DOOR JAM AND MY PAINT FLAKES PEALING OFF. IM IN A WORLD OF HATE. THIS IS GOIng TO COST ME A PRETTY PENNY. PLUS IT WAS SNOWING OUT IN NEPA SO THAT DIDN'T HELP IT EITHER.
SO, IN ORDER TO ENTER MY CAR IS THROUGH THE PASANGER DOOR. ITS THE ONLY WAY. I CANT OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR FOR NOTHING.

IM ABOUT TO HEAD TO MINOOKA SUBARU TO GET A QUOTE AND ETR ON THE FIX.

I went to minooka subaru and i got an estimated quote on repairs on my car driver door. I cant believe that the amount of the one door, paint, and of course labor the sum came out to be $1867.85. And $1000 of the amount is all toward labor hours. At a rate of $46.00 hour. So, approx. Total time repair is 21 hours in the er getting operated on.
they managed to pull the door open, and mentioned that they had to do minor unibody pull on the frame rack bc it crimped the door seal edge. As you look at the pics i posted. A simple hit but somewhat major results. It sucks.

Wow. That sounds like an awful lot for just the door... $1000 in labor? Maybe I don't have a firm grasp on what exactly needs to be done, but it doesn't seem like 21 hours worth of work....even with the painting.

I totally understand what you mean. Im including the actual tally of the estimate here. It says it all on there. Im getting another estimate next week to see if the amounts are the same. Unfortunately, bc i have to drive around with my beat door, it'sgoing to be looking like a hoopty on the streets. . I'll just make sure when i drive to show my left only. Lol.

No Insurance quote? Why did you go to the dealer? No police report?!! I must be missing something.

my insurance quote is not til next week!. so, i decided to head to the subaru dealer anyways to get a quote. it was free. when i get the insurance quote next week, i can compare from the dealers and see which one charges the most. im doing it for the heck of it. its not like im going to be paying for the work.
and for the police report, my insurace didnt have to have one in place, because it was a hit and run, with nobody's insurance info to the car that hit mine. plus there was no witnesses around when it did happen, and no cameras in the parking lot. so, it wasn't required. i even called the police station they said, "if the insurance doesn't need one, then you dont need to file one" . okay, i guess. its not going to help me much.

I just parked my new 09 wrx in a private (to the general public, but otherwise shared) garage. The same garage I've been using since I got the car.

Every time I've parked it so far I've been lucky enough to find a nice spot on the upper deck with no cars anywhere near me--so no fear of door dings, etc.

But tonight we are expecting lots of snow, and I decided to park in a lower level. To my left, a brand new Pontiac G6 (which I felt pretty safe parking next to). To my right, a beat up honda civic with out of state plates.

After reading this thread I can't help but wonder if I'm better off dealing with a few inches of snow on my new car vs. a potential door ding (not that any door ding could compare to the hit-and-run damage posted, but still).

Very tempting to go back out and move it.

Too bad some people just suck. Reminds me of that scene from Pulp Fiction:

    Lance: Still got your Malibu?
Vincent: Aw, man. You know what some f***er did the other day?
    Lance: What?
    Vincent: F***ing keyed it.
Lance: Oh, man, that's f***ed up.
Vincent: Tell me about it. I had it in storage for three years, it was out for five days and some d***less piece of s**t f***ed with it.
Lance: They should be f***ing killed. No trial, no jury, straight to execution.
Vincent: Boy, I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that a**hole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it.
    Lance: What a f***er!
    Vincent: What's more chickens**t than f***ing with a man's automobile? I mean, don't f**k with another man's vehicle.
    Lance: You don't do it.
Vincent: It's just against the rules.

Anyway, good luck with the repairs.

well, i would you all know that i just finally got my door fixed last week. not actually fixed but replaced. its was from skyline's thread about parting out the WRB 07 STi he had. i got the door from him and got it put on my car. it looks like nothing has happen to it. but the only fooling part is that the door has the STi vinyl sticker on it. its no biggie. im just going to leave it on there.

im totally relieved that that's taken care of.

I'm glad you got your car fixed (mine was in the body shop for over a month with my accident, but I was recovering from surgery and couldn't drive, so it wasn't that bad). As for the decal, get one for the other side or take that one off - IIRC, the side decals were $25

So, you didn't even make a claim and paid for the door out of pocket ? Must have been less than the deductible then ? Did you switch the key locks?

so, yeah the things i did is transfer my original door card to the new one, changed out the door lock. (i thought it would be a challenge, just a bolt holding it on, and swapped the side view mirror. all fits well, and fitted on the frame with now problems.

and it wasn't covered by the insurance. my deductible was higher than the cost of what i paid for the door...
as long i dont have to pay the full amount. that is what it counts.
