Subaru parts dept change oil filters?

So for the last 14 oil changes I have used the factory oil filter that came in the white box, Filter 15208AA100. It was black, the same one that came on the car, said "Subaru" on the side and "Engine" on the bottom.

Well my fav dealer's parts dept., closed on weekends due to the economy so I was forced to go to the other game in town. The parts guy was quick to help me, seemed to know exactly what I wanted, asked if I needed a crush washer, then plopped down this cellofaned blue oil filter that said "Subaru" on the side and "Engine" on the bottom. I asked him about it and he said "Subaru is trying to be more ECO conscious or something and stopped shipping them in boxes."

I compared it with the old one after I took it off, and it looks the same except the O-ring is no longer lubed, its Blue, and the top is sort of sunken in a bit. Its part number was something like: 15****A212. Anyone else gotten one of these? I miss the O-ring condom and little white box .

I seem to remember Subaru stating that the color was changing for the oil filters, I think it was in one of the subie magazines. I wish I would remember where I saw it.

They recently made the change - the last 6 or so I've purchased have been the blue ones. I always lube the oring anyway so no loss there. I miss the box only because it made them easier to stack/store. I wish they'd throw the washer under the celophane wrap....

    Blue Filters

I have one more black subaru oil filter left, so I ordered 6 of the new blue filters. They look worse in everyway What is the verdict on these filters?

It is a Fram filter panted Blue. I would not put one in my car.

I'd run Purolater, WIX or the black Subaru filters, but this subject could go on for days. YMMV.
