Red face Need new EJ20, price/vendor advice?

engine blew in my 02 after 140k miles, am guessing previous owners didn't treat my baby with the proper maintenance...yes, it was the journal bearings...

my mechanic said that he can get a new EJ20 for $5300, is that correct? Is there any place to get them for less? want my car back on the road asap

dude if your having to shell out 5300, then at least go with a 2.5L block. I believe you can find 2.5L blocks with forged pistons for less than 5300...

Brands new shortblocks from Subaru should be less than 1800, a year ago I bought a EJ257 shortblock for $1475

your also going to want a complete gasket kit, a new oil pump and other things needed for a swap/replacement. which all should total less than 600 dollars.

I found my new motor in a junkyard in AL, for less than $2,000 with only 10k miles on it. (included: Turbo,TMIC,and BPV)

so just look around and you will find somthing.
