    Revving beyond redline--help please.

    i accidently revved my wrx past redline. it redlines at 6500, but i got it to like 7300 in neutral. i didn't see any smoke or smell anything strange. do i have anything to worry about? does this affect the performance of the engine? thanx in advance.

    I think you're fine. I've done it too. But my redline is 7K

    There should be a rev limiter on your car. Plus, the tach isn't always accurate once you reach that level either.

    Depends upon how the high revs were achieved. Get up to 70mph or so, ram it in 2nd, and let out the clutch, and it'll head past redline regardless of any rev limiter.

    I suspect that the OP's car will be fine, if it's been properly cared for otherwise.

    You're absolutely right. On a downshift, there's no help, but the OP stated it was in neutral.
