i just talk to some one and they were tellin me that when i had that ploom of smoke come up my hood scoop long ago that when i check my oil that day it seed low but i put just a little oil in then check it there was to much. well anyway the guy said that the oil makes a loop around the engin and the turbo and dumps back in to the resavor but befor the res. there is a check valve and it mite have gotten stuck closed and the the build up of pressure made a little oil blow by a seal in the turbo and maybe it happen again and the turbo went. what do u guys think?

Since when is oil getting past a seal on a critical engine component not a big deal?

Why would your cat be screwed from oil going through it?

I also have a used wrx turbo, only was on the car for 4000 miles....let me know if you need to go that route. As for your cause, you have a bunch of proable causes....You would have to have a serious failure of rings or seals to have liquid oil comming out your tail pipe. You could also have a ruptured oil line (either going in or comming out of the turbo). I guess you'll just have to wait on the diagnosis of the shop. A turbo swap (assuming you have eveything stock) is around 5 hours. This could be much higher, however, if you have problems with those 100,000 mile bolts, which is highly likely. PB blaster and a torch will be needed.

Wow!!!! that is a riduculous. True, its new, but a turbo with a few thousand miles for HALF that is readily available with just a keystroke virtually anywhere. Think....his turbo lasted 100,000 miles! To save HALF the $$ and buy a used one with 5,000 miles...even that used one will outlast that motor! He must really put all his trust in this mechanic! Hope he makes good $$$. If it was $800 for the OEM turbo, imagine the installation costs on top of it!
