Where is LA? Where did he run it from, and where to? How long was "the WHOLE TIME?"

he says theres about only 7k miles left in the transmission
Is there a way of making sure there aren't, say, 6K or 8K left on the transmission?

and the internals are like effed.just lettin u noe."
The internals to what? The transmission? What does "effed" actually mean? Who takes the time and has the knowledge to correctly spell "transmission" but can't manage "letting," "you," or "know?"

    what should i do
Contact your friend and advise them about the spelling problems. Take your car to a Subaru specialist if you are having problems -- but be more specific about what those problems might be than your friend has been.

and how much will it cost me?
Your cell phone plan may already include free texting. If not, prices tend to run about $0.10 per message, but check with your carrier.

As for the car, I can't say. Nobody can, because there is no information about the problem(s) you're having.

Based on what you said (or rather the lack of what was said), the ONLY things we can answer are:

-Yes, you need to get the car retuned (stay out of boost)
-Yes, you friend is extremely illiterate and probably dropped out of school in the 1st grade.

Notice though how well the friend did on "programmed," "replaced" and "aftermarket," not to mention "transmission," only to dish out "doode," "ur," "thas y," and "theres." It's quite something.

look just stop. Slow down. Is the engine idling correctly without noise. Is your oil looking clear? Do a engine oil change. Listen for ticking, knocking, etc. once it warms up. Now drive and shift thru the gears. Are they smooth? Is the clutch slipping? Are the gears not working (ie, no 2nd gear).

Quit listening to others and pay attention to what your car is telling you. If it's screwed you will know...

5W-30, any brand. You can use Synthetic too (like Mobil One 5W-30)

The real question is how is your car running now?

What oil does Subaru suggest? They'd know best. In general look for something with an API symbol on it, in 5W-30 weight, and start from there. This forum has a dedicated "oil change" thread that has thousands of posts with info, but at the end of the day, all that matters are manufacturer specifications for each motor and oil analysis data. Both are available in that thread, but the maker specs are also in your user's manual.

BTW, having driven from Los Angeles to the Bay repeatedly, I find it amazing that anyone could maintain 120 mph. At times, even 120 kph is questionable. There's lots more people using the same two roads nowadays. Find out what facts are available about the car, and if there's a problem either post specifics or have a mechanic look at it.

i didn't hear any ticking or knocking. and the gears and clutch seem to work fine.

is there a way to help prevent my transmission from being "effed"?

Your author friend would be the best person to ask that, since they know best what exactly they meant by that.

There's also a long thread in the transmission forum with details about different gear oils and the experiences people have had with them, plus there are threads on transmission problems etc.

You just recommended one of the worst oils he could choose.

    Are you mechanically inclined?
Is there a check engine light?
    How deep are your pockets?

If you answered yes to question 1 then start searching, everything you need to know is probably on this site.

If you answered yes to question 2 then get it scanned and see what codes it's throwing. If you answered yes to question 1 then get to work. If you answered no to question 1 then take it to a garage familiar with subaru's or a dealership with a good rep.

If you answered deep then you picked a good car because if it was beat on it's gonna cost you(but it is somewhat rewarding).
If you answered shallow then you might be "effed".

Who knows your car might be fine; then again it might not. I'd get moving on that and at least get it checked out.

    Welcome and best of luck!
