Unhappy Oil Pressure light at low speeds?

Recently I have noticed that when im approacing a stop light or just comming to a complete stop in general when i get to about 5mph or less my oil pressure light flashes for about a second and then when I am completely stopped it goes off. This is the only time the light comes on. I have not seen any oil leaking under the car and I do not have any knocking or odors or anything out of the ordinary. Any clue what this could be caused by?

Just to make sure, you have checked the oil level yes?

After that, next thing I'd do would be to replace the sender. If that doesn't do it, I'd say your oil pump is going.

I had an eclipse do this after an engine rebuild.... .. if it's not the oil pump or the sender then you may be facing a spun bearing. That's what my problem was. Stop driving it and get it to a mechanic ASAP! I was fortunate enough to catch it in time so only the bearings needed to be replaced without any damage to the head, cylinders or crank.

Best bet is to buy a oil pressure gauge. It's better than the "idiot light".

i havent had any time recently to take my car to a mechanic, but when i posted first i checked the oil and it was low so i added more and the light stayed off for a good 2 weeks. now it has started to happen again and it seems like when the turbo starts to spool i hear a loose belt or something, shift and it goes away. this happens mostly in the lower gears as thats where im accelerating the most.

any ideas or just take it into a mecahnic asap?
