    Knock & CEL

Tonight, my motor began to knock...loudly...triggering a CEL. The knock is coming from the driver-side of the motor and occurs during the entire time the motor runs.

The motor is an EJ20 (2004) with 80,000 miles.

Any help on what is causing the knock would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Autozone or a similar shop - they'll have something you can read the code with.

Without knowing the code, it could be anything.

I live in a small, one-signal, town...where the only auto parts store is a very small Napa. The nearest Autozone is over 30-miles away.

UPDATE on the symptoms; it is leaking oil. I noticed it when I had her delivered to a "local" (20-miles away) mechanic...and he will look at it on Tuesday.

I work on vehicles that make 650hp and 2400ft/lbs.

Yes. When I got her home, there was no oil on the dipstick. So I added almost 2-quarts of oil. I checked it today, since she has been sitting since Saturday, to find the oil level about 2-inches over the "full" mark. I don't know if it is leaking oil now. If not, what did I see leaking off my motor and on to the asphalt?

I need to go back, wipe the dipstick, and see if that level is accurate. I, also, need to see if that is only oil in the sump.

The mechanic looks at her Wednesday. I'll see what the bad news is then.

My money is on a spun rod bearing.#1 best mod you can do to any car (even stock) is a good set of gauges.Oil pressure gauge would have saved you $$$$.
