I need to replace my pre cat. I need to make a decison on whether to replace it with another pre cat or an up pipe. Will i pass inspection with the up pipe? An up pipe costs $200, Subaru wants $660 for the pre cat parts and labor. Is it hard to install myself?

Don't use a catted UP - the last one failed for a reason.

NY requires a visual inspection of the ECDs (cats). However, very few inspectors will look at the pre-turbo cat (I haven't heard of anyone failing from this), so as long as you have at least one thing that resembles a cat in your turboback exhaust, you shouldn't have an issue (and aren't throwing a code for a catless UP).

I dont live in NY nor have i ever had my wrx inspected... but if you get the catless UP you wont regret it. the cat right b4 the turbo is just dumb. Its your car so do what you like but the catless UP is always a good route
