    Should I replace the Pre-cat with an up pipe?

    My CEL came on the other day then turned off on its own then came back on. The next day durring normal driving the turbo completely went dead. No pull at all, hiss from the intake or expulsion from the BOV can be heard to confirm this terrible fate. After some trial and error the dealer says the pre cat melted somehow and thats why the turbo isnt spooling. They want over $500 to replace the pre cat. Should I just replace the pre cat with an up pipe? How difficult is it to install?

    So they have determined that the "cat" is clogged or broken up into peices. If it's clogged replace it. If it's broken into little pieces like they've been known to do odds are your turbo is no good either at this point.

    I'd check with your warranty paperwork. In some states the UP/Turbo is considered emission devices and will have a longer warranty.

    I'd personally find someone local who knows Subaru's and ask them to help you install a catless UP into the vehicle. Along with the UP you can do a resistor mod to clear the CEL or get some sort of engine management to defeat the code.
