03 WRX, oil on bottom of intercooler.

Every thing is stock on my car. Right now is burning around a quart of oil every 3K miles. Doing some investigating I found quite a bit of oil under the intercooler.

From a bit of research it appears this is probably from blow by, but from the picture it seems like an excessive amount. But I am a rookie with this stuff so I don't really know.

I'm thinking there a good chance the oil burn rate and visible oil on the intercooler are linked, but then again I am a rookie...

Thanks for any input you can give

That's a little excessive on the IC. Look for a leak to the back of the motor since it's all off.

this happens to me, look for any oil in the compressor side of the turbo. nothing is perfect and a little oil will leak regardless. this is normal

also, the quart burned every 3k is a little much, check the actual oil lines on the turbo, especially the gravity feed return line.

Check the PCV valve. Also, consider changing oils if you want to lower consumption as much as possible. Different oils will have a different consumption rate. The PCV valve may be faulty anyway.

it isnt uncommon for our cars to burn that much oil. I use 5w 30 royal purple and burn around a quart by the time i change it again at 3,000 miles. Then again the aggressiveness of your driving determines oil consumption also.

I also burn about 1/2 to 3/4 qt every oil change at 97K miles. Havent bothered to look under the intercooler though. My last car (Toyota Rav4) burned a qt every 2 weeks or so but that was of course at 197k miles. That was excessive but at that high mileage I figured a quart of oil every couple weeks was cheeper than a valve job!!!
