    Help! Bumping/Fluttering Noise...

    Hey guys, need your help/expertise...

    My car: 2006 2.5i Impreza wagon(N/A)

My problem/worry: When I'm driving, cruising @ 50mph @ 3kRPM in 4th, and I let off the gas keeping the car in gear a terrible noise starts from what my untrained ear tells me is the engine. Its a kind of bumpin/fluttering noise, its not constant, and as the rpms drop it becomes less and less till around 2k it stops. I had a friend ride with me and to hear the noise, he knows a little more about cars than I but its no professional mechanic, and he thought it could be ring flutter. Or he thinks it could be slack in the timing belt.

And its not just 4th gear it does it in, it'll make that same noise in every gear if I let off the gas at 2,700RPM or higher and keep it in gear.

Anyone had any experience with this, or have any insight?
