    Wastegate Exhaust Leak

    Hey Guys,

This afternoon I gave my car the Seafoam treatment and noticed some white smoke coming from around the turbo. I decided to investigate a little more, pulled off the heat shield, and noticed the white smoke coming from the wastegate valve.

Is this a sign that my is turbo is toast?

Is there a way to fix this?

Could this be the reason why I am hitting approx. 1 psi less than target boost?

Relevant info: 2002 WRX, Cobb Stage 2, TurboXS Stealth Back

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

when you say wastegate valve, do you mean the actuator?

    check the vacuum lines.

Funny, I did a seafoam treatment today and I also saw some smoke from that same area, right when it first started sucking it down. It wasn't much smoke, and it stopped smoking, but it was pretty clear that there was some exhaust escaping through there.

MainFrame, how much smoke came off the turbo? I would get the equivalent of a lit cigarette. Turbo only leaked when I revved the engine though.

It was a small cloud, not a lot, maybe two or three ciggs. I was revving the engine when it occurred as well. I'll ask my tuner if it's anything to worry about when I take my car in to get remapped next week.

So it's normal for the turbo to have a slight exhaust leak?

Yeah, it's probably not a big deal. Maybe i'm just trying to find an excuse to get a bigger turbo.
