    Important oil question

i have an 02 wrx and i live in ny, the temp now is about 70 low and 80-85 high....i have a 16g and all the supporting mods.....the place i took it to get my oil changed said that i should use 20w50, but then i realized that for like track use......so i was wondering if i should wait it out or should i just go change my oil tomorrow and get 5w30 like subaru reccomends....i just got this oil put in on thursday......is 20w30 too thick, i dont shift above 4k really.....am i doing any harm to my engine????

What time of place recommended that oil weight? You should be using 5w30 or something close to it. 20w50 is pretty heavy compared to recommended oil. I wouldn't go heavier than a 10w something. Basically, you're now making your oil flow more slowly and making your oil pump work a lot harder to pump the thicker oil. That being said, I'm sure it'll be fine until you change it again as long as you don't drive it like you stole it or track the car. I would just go back to a 10w next time. Why do you say a 20w50 is for track use?????
