1 - Disconnect the Negative Battery cable.
2 - Disconnect and remove the Alternator
3 - Behind the alternator under the intake manifold will be the coolant temp sensor. Sounds like a PITA to change.
I don't have any pictures on the actual car, sorry

Hi all decided to replace my Coolant Temp Sensor, car is a 02 sti and the temp needle is fluctuating so starting a process of elimination. I have done allot like burping even an engine flush... got a motor rebuild with new water pump, pipes and pulleys...
So here’s my question where does this go...
(pics on actual car will help)
Thanks in advance

Well... as you guys are still in summer you will know its winter this side. So I got up at the crack of dawn yesterday to start putting in the sensor... (freezing my hiney off)
My knowledge on cars and mechanical work is about 7 -10 at its best. (Hence my first question)
Popped the hood, took off the plastic alternator cover. I loosened the 2 bolts holding it in place, sided it over. Unscrewed the sensor and screwed the new one in and replaced everything...
Not hard at all... the whole job took me 15mins...
@ JMack - Bud I owe you big time, the directions you gave was spot on!
