I had the same problem, and was told that the antenna has an amplifier wire that alot of people forget to hook up when they put in an aftermarket cd player. your radio will barely pick up any stations if this one wire isnt plugged in to the deck

I have an 06 Impreza 2.5i with an Alpine deck that came in it when I bought the car. Great deck, but one problem: it picks up like one radio station. It won't even pick up local stuff that every other car in the world gets. What does the antenna wire look like behind the deck, or where can I see if it's connected properly?

The antenna cable that goes to the back of the deck should look like the silver part of this Motorola Antenna Cable 18" Male-to-Female extension at Crutchfield.com
The actual antenna is integrated in to the rear windows (instead of having an aerial antenna like on many other cars)
I found it, it's a solid blue wire coming from the car and connects to the blue/white stripe wire coming from the deck labeled "p. ant" for power antenna.
