Check engine light keeps flashing

Good Day Guys

I have recently purchased a 1998 Impreza WRX Jap Spec. The check engine light keeps flashing and the car cuts out at 5000rpm. The only mods I can see is a front mounted intercooler and a 76mm exhaust. I think the car is chipped, but not sure as the car came in this condition from Japan. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

The check engine light flashes when the ECU detects knock. You may want to try and find a stock ECU and install that in place of the current ECU. I'm not exactly sure how to help you.

You may be able to use a Tactrix OBD2-USB port cable to reflash the ECU but I am not sure if that model year JDM Impreza is supported.
