    Losing LOTS of oil somewhere!

    I just purchased a 2005 STI with 24k miles. When I checked the oil it was 2 quarts low. So I filled it up and about 100 miles later checked it again and I had lost about 1/4 of a quart already. There is no visible external leaks. So I checked the service history at the dealership and the previous owner had took it in complaining that the engine was noisy. When the dealership drained the oil there was only 1/2 quart in the pan! So he burned through all of the oil! I am going to have the dealership do an oil consumption test and try to get them to warranty the problem. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? Has anyone heard of a similar problems?

    These cars will tend to burn maybe a quart every 2-3k miles, but what you're seeing is not good. Is there any oil on the ground after parking it overnight? If not, then the oil is going out the exhaust which could mean there's a leak in a lot of difference places in the engine.

    Hey thanks for responding. There has been no oil on the ground where the car has been sitting so it must be going through the exhaust. The check engine light also came on and I pulled a P2096 code (lean condition after second converter). I just wonder if Subaru is going to help me out with this.
