Heeelllp! Need to know what part is broken so I can replace it.

The shifter ball (what holds the shifter in place) keeps popping out. The cup that holds it looks intact, but does have four cut places in it, which look like they are supposed to be there (not ragged, or broken looking). If I could find a parts diagram of this area, I think I could identify the part.
The whole shifter seems to pop completely out of the cup.
    Thanks!

I had this happen to me once when I had a short throw shifter installed. There is a c-clip that holds the ball in the cup. Took a little effort to get it to seat properly. There are c-clip pliers made for this reason. Hope this helps.

Actually I was lucky enough to be at the shop when it happened. I learned to have the mech. test drive before I leave. It was a effort to pop in but he popped it out shifting from 1st to 2nd quite easily. So here's what we did. I got in the car and he lifted it up on the hoist. I put my weight on it till it popped into place and kept weight on it until the c-clip was verified to be in place properly. After done left the car off and shifted through all gears with a heavy hand. No problems since install. Did this happen to you after a short throw install?
