my friend bought a code reader like 9 months ago, and it works for his car but it kept saying error and not giving me a code... any ideas for where else to go or what else to do?

if you have a cobb AP you can use that to read error codes. Other then that try autozone... and if you can pull it off of there you might be forced to take it to a subaru dealer. if you need to clear the codes disconnect your battery pump the breaks couple times... and reconnect.

You can buy a decent OBDII code reader from almost anywhere for less than $100. Matco, Bluepoint, Snapon, even a Actron are good simple plug and play scanners. You can check readiness monitors with them too. If it's like $30 at autozone or somewhere of that nature it's junk. Change your plugs. Start with that. Very easy and quick, and a good thing to do for a car.

The one under the steering column? That sounds reasonable.

Was the check engine light flashing and did it sounds like the fans where cycling on and off like every 5 sec or so?? if that the case sounds like your boyfriend connect the test mode connectors...

also if you feel you were treated wrong at the dealer and feel it was possible they looked for an easy out you might want to consider talking to the manager... after all you did just give them thousands of your hard earned dollars (assuming you bought it from them)

Now my freakin Check Engine light is on! (Came on, on my way to work this morning).

Going to check my gas cap, brake fluid, and oil levels at lunch (gotta be precautious!).

I didn't know Autozone did free code readings. If I can't get ahold of my buddy with a code reader, I'll be going there. Thanks for the info!
