    Spin-on oil filter gasket coating

    Hi Guys and girls,

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year. Just a quick question for you, please. When installing a new spin-on oil filter the instructions call for coating the gasket with a thin film of clean oil. So my questions is; do you just coat the top surface of the gasket or do you remove the gasket and coat the whole thing? Thanks in advance!

    Peace,

    John

Just the top surface so it doesn't bunch up, or tear when spinning it against the metal surface it joins with.

Just a smear of whatever oil you're putting in. Definitely don't remove the gasket.
