    Should I change coolant etc?

Just bought an 04 WRX private party. My first. Love the car! Haven't stopped smiling, or finding excuses to to a drive, since I got it.

    Some service questions:

It has 42K. It is still running original coolant, fuel filter, and brake fluid. (Engine oil, transmission oil are up to date and I just installed a K+N air filter.) I had car checked out by a mechanic before I bought it and it got clean bill of health. It runs great. So, should I change the other stuff or can I run till 60K? Any priority on what should be changed?

If I do need to change, who should I get to do the work? I won't go to the local Subaru dealer on principle -- bad reputation and tried to sell me a lemon! (Boo-hiss!)
Should I trust a Grease Monkey to do radiater flush and coolant change? Or will some pimply teenager jack my car with the wrong fluid?

Speaking of which ... What coolant should I have on hand if and when it needs topping up. Can I use a generic brand? Neat. Water only. 50/50? (My car didn't come with an owner's manual. Anyone know where I can get one?)

Thanks! Must go drive WRX now...

I Support ClubWRX can get you an owners manual.

You ought to be able to find a radiator shop nearby that can competently flush the radiator. Or an independent Subaru specialist. Or grease monkey - not an easy job to F up, really.

You could probably let it go to 60k. I'd change all that stuff now, myself, but I don't think you'd be killing it to let it wait a little while.

Coolant can be a controversial subject. Some say it matters, others that it doesn't. Mixing might be a bit worriesome.... I'd change it out to Prestone long-life and then have some of that around.
