    Pass smog running lean?

    this is mearly an idea, being that am only a novice in car knowledge.
    Everyone is so worried about passing smog without cats, well, i had an idea.
    What if you had some kind Air Fuel Controller like the Apexi, ETC. When smog check time came around, could you program your car to run extra extra lean in order to pass?? I dont know the possible engine or performance consequences of doing this;

    like I said im not a car buff. What do you guys think??

    This should be interesting....

    You'll never pass a sniffer test with no cats. A single high-flow cat should do it anyway as long as it's nice and hot.

    No, If you run too lean, the CO level will go up. Too rich, HC goes up.
