    No more second gear..need help

Hi, I was recently driving and I slammed second....well..now I dont have a second gear
Well I went to a local transmossion place and they told me it would be around 3k to fix..they said they couldnt find a tranny under 2k..Well I seen a STi tranny go for 1700 on ebay..Well my question was is it worth to buy the stock tranny or should I go for the STi one....but also I am very low on cash so keep that in mind.....Also would it just be cheaper to just rebuild the tranny....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..Thanks

If you are low on cash you should keep in mind that the STi gearbox requires other parts to work in your car, as the final output differs etc., so the bill goes up.

Paying by the hour for a non-Subaru specialist to rebuild your gearbox is not an economical solution, nor is paying for strengthened gear sets.

Your best bet might be to find a used WRX gearbox from a car somebody has wrapped around a tree or driven into a building. This happens every day and the used parts market might have suitable gearboxes from time to time.
