    transmission leak?

I was changing the OIL on my 2002 wrx, when I saw, what appears to be a tranny leak.

I thought it was just my engine OIL spilling into the tranny area. Maybe it was??

Has anyone had leaks in their tranny?? My at 22,000 miles and all I have is
INtake and TBexhaust. I really don't drive hard at all. Help.

Is my tranny bad?? I bought the car NEW, so I know there really hasn't been
    any abouse yet.

I have not mis shifted EVER. Any Ideals guys??

Can you post pics of the leak? Where is it leaking from? Was the trans low on fluid?

Look like something either spilled at the TOP of the tranny. NOTE: I just oiled the bolts because they were rusty. There really should not be any OIL on the bolts.

    Here are some pixs:

It looks like it may be leaking from the axle seals. It's hard to tell. What rust are you speaking about, the downpipe?

what you should do is clean it with a solvent and get all those stains. then drive for a few minutes and check to see where the leak is coming from. is your fluid low? do you noticed if any of the oil drips on you parkign area? also you car should be under warranty right? i guess i doesn't hurt getting it checked out.

My axle is clean. No leak from axle. I'll wipe it up this week.

I've got the same kind of thing. Photo is from the driver's side.

They don't do this kind of work at my regular shop, and I'd be grateful for any hints as to what I should expect from the dealer.

    Thanks

Yours is the selector shaft seal.
Why doesn't your "regular" shop do it? Don't they know how to fix cars?

To the O.P, as someone said the axle/CV shaft seal.
Left and Right are specific seal's, make sure they do the o-ring around the retainer aswell.
