I don't do huge miles, especially in winter, but need a (northern Alberta friendly) year round car. My biggest concern is that I suffer a warentee issue that leaves the car undrivable and me with the problem of getting it to a dealer.

The question is, how likely is a post '09 wrx to have such an issue. I have joined this fourm to try to find out. I'll be searching and asking in the coming weeks.

Thanks.

So was wondering what everyone else thinks or even the first thing's they do. I put a drop in air filter and i think im going to do muffler deletes, trying to avoid tuning the motor because i know that will void the warranty.

I have new '13 WRX base and have been driving it for about 800 miles.
The problem is when I go from a stoplight or stop sign, the RPMS drop a lot from a 1500-1800 rpm acceleration as i let the clutch out.
The problem is, it drops to a point where it almost stalls! This is all while i'm still holding 1500-1800 rpms on the throttle.
My only method is to gas it more while slipping it. But that adds more wear to my clutch.

Is this normal?!

I heard of intake leaks, or some kind of vacuum leak may be a cause?

Anybody else experience this?
TIA for any info.

Hi all, I'm new to Subaru and I'm thinking about buying a 2009 WRX sedan.

I work at a car dealership and we recently took in the 09 WRX, it's black and drives beautifully. It has approximately 72000 KM's or 43000 Miles. That being said I don't know much about these cars besides the fact that I enjoy them.

I've been driving it as my "demo" for about 400 km's and love it as I knew I would. My question is what do I need to look for before I buy? What maintenance should I look into at this point?

I also noticed what I was driving it, putting it into reverse requires some force. Is that common for Subaru's? I'm not sure.

Also, I do plan on doing somethings to it, nothing crazy. Exhaust, tuner (maybe?) intake and that's pretty well it.

I don't know what brands are good for these cars and I don't know what kind of power difference I'll see with these slight modifications. I would love to have it over 300hp but I don't know if that's possible given my parameters.

I also know that that Subaru's aren't cheap, and either are there parts. The expense of maintenance doesn't scare me, I just don't want a car that is going to need thousands ever month!

Thanks for your time and please help!

I've noticed that the two times I've shifted into reverse with the car slightly rolling in reverse, the gears feel like they're grinding (I can feel it in the stickshift during the shift). I've read somewhere that when shifting in reverse in a WRX, the car needs to be stopped before engaging in reverse. Is this correct? Is it because there isn't a synchro for reverse? Of course, I'm not doing that again, but I'm hoping that the two times I did grind didn't do any damage.

Thoughts?

Hi guys,

I'm a new WRX owner and new to this forum.

I recently bought a 2003 WRX. I'm from NZ, so it's a JDM spec. It is pretty much un-modified. It only has lowered springs, 17" aftermarket alloys and an STI front lip.

I previously owned a Nissan Stagea, which is basically a Skyline station wagon. It was a 2.5 turbo, 4WD, auto. Great car, big, grunty and reliable, but I hated the auto. :-(

My partner owned a 2000 WRX, which I loved driving. So when it came time to buy a new car, I looked around and found that Subaru was one of the few brands that had an abundance of manual cars. So I bought this one.

I love it. :-) It cost me NZ$14,000 (US$11,000) and has done 90,000km. The engine is completely untouched (which is very rare here in NZ) and it is in great condition. The only issue with it is that it is a bit low. The number of times I have scraped the front lip on driveways, etc is annoying.

I'm not really into doing huge modifications to cars. I enjoy tinkering, but that's about it. I would like to maybe fit a better intake and exhaust, but that's about it for the engine. The one big thing I'd like to do is fit wider tyres. I'm thinking 235's. It would mean I would have to get wider wheels, I'd stick with 17's though, I think they look about the right size for the car. Any ideas on what sort of offset I'd need? I'd like to have the edge of the wheel pretty much at the edge of the guard, I like that look.

Anyway, I hope to add any experiences I have with you guys and hopefully help someone with something in the process.

Thanks,

Simon
