So this morning I go out to finish cleaning my car I noticed that during the night after spending hours polishing and waxing the day before that tree sap was getting on it, so I decided to move the car to a different spot and get to work on getting the tree sap off so when I started the car it shot right up over 6000 RPMS I shut it right back off waited about 5 minutes and tried it again same thing ot just pegged out. I shut it down again. This time whi le key was in off position I hit the accelerator a few times then started it and this time ot was fine. I don't know if maybe a throttle could stick or what. It was cold this morning about 28degrees but it only idles up to about 2800 when its 20 below. Does any one have a reason why this would happen? I was thinking stuck throttle but the cwr hadn't ran for at least 12 hours. Any help appreciated.

Hey guys. I've got an issue with my '06 WRX.
I've got the car with all the modifications, big intercooler, 1.4boost, 320~350HP, haven't got the slightest idea what's been done to it.

It's eating up a lot of oil (1liter per 1200-2000Km).
Checked the intercooler and it's showing small amounts of oil in the turbo pipes. Checked and replaced PCV valve. Cleaned it up, drove it during the day, and in the evening same oil in the pipes.

I think the turbo shaft and/or the seals might be going out. I'm afraid my engine will start running on oil and blow up, so i'm looking to fix the turbo problem.
The thing is, i don't know what kind of turbo i have on it. I know it's a IHI turbo, There's also S47D stamped on it, might be the model #, googled it but nothing.
I hope someone can help me identify what it is so i can search for a rebuild kit or a replacement, and if i have to replace it i won't need a remap.

Sorry for my spelling it's not my first language.
Help!

hello, I have been considering buying a new WRX for some time now and finally I can go ahead and pull the trigger, but I still need some information as to the operating costs of the car, I know Subaru states that you can get up to 25 mpg on the highway and 19 city on their website. I already know this is not a fuel economy car in fact I don't know of many turbo cars that brag about mpg's anyways but what kind of money do you guys spend on filling up your gas tanks?

Also I have seen posts stating that the maintenance on the car is expensive why exactly is that and how much would it cost?

The car I will buy would be a '13 wrx sedan in WR blue pearl (maybe a premium) so if I can get reply's from this gen owners that would be great, but any wrx info is welcome.

I plan to use this a s a daily driver. I do not comute far but I drive about 20000km a year so reliability is a concern. Can anyone tell me about reliability and service costs on these? I heard the boxer engine is a pain to work on and apparently from an ex owner transmission needs to be serviced every 10000k and the engine needs to be lifted to do this. I cannot afford massive service costs as I am a student [not broke, a student ;)].
Thanks for any help.
In response to a lot of the comments. Any idea why the dealers say every 7500 miles? U think they would do what is safest since they are covering the car bumper to bumper for 3 yrs.

Today, I was driving down the road on the interstate and I heard a sound under the hood and lost power. Turns out the AC belt popped. Belt was old and due, got lazy.
This weirdly, does not explain why the engine stopped working and now will turn over, but not start. There is however and intermittent pop in the intercooler and/or exhaust during the cranking process.
I've started looking into this tonight and wished to get your input on the issue.

2005 Impreza WRX Automatic
Mileage: 98,372
Mods: MBC

Damage from belt: Apparently, when it popped it swung around and snapped the wiring going to the AC compressor, (Magnetic clutch I suppose)
Found bits of the AC belt behind the timing belt cover. (More below)

So I've tested what I could tonight in as much time as I had. These are the steps I've taken so far.
Basic rules apply:

1. Visual check - No scuff marks on anything. Some belt cord wrapped around crank pulley. Possible more behind.
Will pull all covers tomorrow and pull pulley to ensure everything clear.

2. MAF check - Plugged or Unplugged, no change.

3. Fuel Pump - Pulled back seat, got close, turns on.
A. Pulled fuel feed line, turned accessory on, very good pressure. (Will verify with fuel pressure gauge tomorrow)
B. Clamped fuel return line in case fuel pressure regulator was stuck open. No change. No attempt at firing.

4. Fuel Relay - Pulled kick panel, got close and touched it, clicks on.

5. Timing Belt - Pulled right cover, inspected. Found bits of AC belt behind cover (Not the timing belt). The timing belt is in good shape, teeth in good condition.

6. Fuses - Other than relays, all the fuses were checked and passed visual inspection.

Assumptions: (These have been stated as the mother of all F ups, but you know)

1. Not a battery or starter related issue. Car turns over without issue. Cams and crank moving on attempts to start.
2. Not an alternator issue. Car would not have stopped running due to alternator.
3. Not a spark plug issue. Chances of all 4 coil packs failing, very unlikely.

Possibles:
Crank Position Sensor - Unlikely coincidence, put possible.
Cam Position Sensor - Unlikely coincidence, put possible.
Timing - Unlikely at this stage, put possible. (Will see more of the timing belt tomorrow and check lineup marks)
Ignition Relay - Possible, will find similar relay in car and trade out.

Other tests:
Getting a OBD2 reader tomorrow and will check for CELs. Always had one before (Right bank - Rich). Might have new ones.

Anything I'm missing, or are my assumptions wrong? Let me know. I appreciate any and all help.

Ok as title states it i just got my 06 WRX Friday with 106k miles and supposed to be 100% stock. I was on my way home and hit the gas and it pulled great until 3000rpm-4500rpm. It was like it fell on its face then got life and shot off like a rocket again. It runs and drives great the code it is throwing is an o2 sensor so not sure if that can cause that or now im coming over from DSM so this is literally all new to me. I did have a guy around here that knows a little about WRX and STi. He said he belives it was at one time not stock. The clutch is already not stock according to him because it is a pretty stiff strong clutch to push in. He belives it used to have a tune on it possibly a stage 2 and the previous owner attempted to revert it back to 100% stock and the stock tune didnt take well and it messed up my fuel maps. So what i was planning on doing is to get a Cobb tuner for it and tune it and all to see if that will fix it. But i would like to start cheap right now so would plugs and a fuel filter be a good idea to do first or just go strait to the Cobb? Thanks for any help guys. I dont have much time to worth on it i have to report to Ft. Carson in a couple days and dont want to have a jacked up WRX when i get there.

So I had noticed recently that my 2006 WRX was idling a little rough when it first started up and every couple of seconds little white puffs of smoke would come out of the exhaust. I decided to try using Seafoam for in the gas tank and BPV vacuum line. After reading multiple posts, I decided not to put it in the crankcase. Adding to the gas tank was easy (long-neck funnel). I disconnected the hose from the BPV and slowly poured 1/3 of the Seafoam into it and it sputtered a lot as I expected. I read in multiple posts that you are supposed to pour a good dose in at the end to stall the car. I let it set for about 15 minutes and started her up. A good amount of white smoke came out. The car seemed to idle a lot better and run smoother.

After driving it around for about 5 miles the CEL came on and the Cruise Control light started flashing. The Cruise Control also wasn't working. The car was running fine but I immediately drove back home and shut it off. I started it up again and the CEL and Cruise Control were still on. I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU and the CEL and Cruise Control went away and the car drove fine. My question is...did I do permanent damage by stalling out the car? After the issues arose I did some research online and read in a few places that you can damage your O2 sensors and spark plugs by dumping too much Seafoam in at once and intentionally stalling the car.
