    Cool My cool new antena

You know that silly thing on top of the driver side window that Subaru calls an antena. You know...the one that you have to open your window and extend your arm to pull out whenever you don't have any reception. Well, seeing that I don't want to get tennis elbow or risk any other type of injury (yes, I'm exaggerating), I got a really cool solution for it. A small powered stubby antena. It works and looks great. I'm planning on shaving off the stock antena when I find the time.

Here are some pics of installation and final product. These are my friends Peter and William drilling a hole in the roof of my Subie (I wouldn't have been able to do it myself).

this stubby antenna came with a long antenna cable with the standard antenna end. it plugs directly into the stock radio without any other adaptors.

there's also a lead wire that runs along with the antenna cable. I tapped that into the positive (red) wire on the factory radio harness, so it can power up the antenna.

Fahd gets very good reception now.

as for the stock antenna wiring, I just disconnected it from the back of the stock radio and just left it in the back, inside the dash.
when the time comes to shave off the factory antenna, the wiring will probably just be cut and left inside the body of the car.

your eyes are a little too excited for drilling your WRX!! I hope it wasn't too painful for your ride. I'd give her an extra waxing for such surgery. But cool install, looks professional in the end, so its all good. At first I thought you were drilling 2 holes in the front for the "rally" antennas (anyone do this, itd be cool to see some pics)

Nice job, don't think that spot would work on my wagon. How's the old hole lookin'? Or is the old antenna still on there?

the antenna, Fahd brought it off a guy that I know for $30 brand new.

Fahd doesn't have a silver IS300, it belongs to my cousin peter's family. we did the install at his house. and the IS300 was there so that we could compare the antennae.

the stock antenna is still there. Fahd just has to find the time to go get it shaved off. It looks like the 2 holes where the screws attach to the body have to be drilled out. b/c they protrude out alittle above the body.
then the holes will have to be filled and painted.

    sweet

That looks great. I've been wanting something like that. I'm in Houston, too. Maybe when the time comes (won't be till October that I have any time to work on my car) y'all can give me a bit more info on the install.
