wagone: In short, the rack wasn't going to fit with the spoiler. They were fork mounts with the forks mounting just behind the front crossbar, so the rear wheels extend too far back and also would hit the gate. I looked at cutting some of the wheeltrays off, but then it would be too short for the mountain bikes... okay for the road bikes though.
Thanks WTypeRogerX, just when I thought I had scoured this thread... must have had wheels on my mind and skipped that photo mentally.
I have considered the backwards mounting as well. I'm also looking at this solution too http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=218717 It relocates the front crossbar mounting points further forward and has a more minimal appearance with no crossbars sticking out the sides. It is nearly identical to how the Subaru E3610AS802 Upright Bike Trays mount to the flat crossbars, but replaces them with fork mounts.
And Jarex definately has a nice set of wheels for his white wagon.
Oh yeah, it wouldn't be right not to gush about SubieGalRacing's pictures... the top one with gravel and dirt flying looks awesome
I've always thought it would be fun to build a track worthy XT- I get pretty good looks now w/ the WRX wagon, they'd really be doing a double take w/ the XT!
Finally got around to doing my rack install. I ended up with the following:
Subaru Factory Crossbars
Subaru Mounts
Yakima Fork Mounts
Yakima Fairing
Cut down Yakima cross bar for front
I tried it first without the fairing and anything 50 mph or above was very noisy! I was ready to take it off it was so bad. However, after I put the fairing on, the noise is very minimal, nearly the same as nothing at all.
No hate but I can see what you're noticing. Its mainly due to the roof rails blending in and making it look taller than it really is. I've thought of shaving them off but then I wouldnt be able to put my bike up top. Heres another few angles that shows how much they stick up.
Been lurking this thread forever, but decided my car looks okay enough to post on here! I haven't dropped it yet, I actually kinda like it at stock height right now! I know some people hate the fastline mud flaps, but they're so ugly that I like them!
