    2015 WRX/STi check your rocker panels(paint issue)

So, I just spent the last two hours, speaking with the Service Manager, and then over to the Body Shop to have that Manager confirm. On my passenger side rocker panel, I noticed a split about two feet long last week while hand washing the car, right along the seam, and the paint has separated. It is not rashed, a very smooth split actually. Both Managers agree with me that it is a factory defect that had to have occurred during the molding process prior to it being sprayed. They said to be patient, as SOA will have to approve it, which could take a week to a month... The body shop Manager stated that he had never in his twenty years of service seen this issue on a rocker panel. I am in meetings off and on all day, but will try to post photos when I get home.

Poor photo, but you can see it clearly. Hoping SOA doesn't deny my claim due to mud flaps

Sorry for the absolutely confusing first shot fellas, here's a better one... The very bottom crease on the rocker panel is what has "split". It is getting worse by the day, and it this point almost runs the entire length of the rocker.

Just got word from my service guy that SOA approved my claim immediately. Factory defect was their conclusion.

I drop off my car this coming Monday. They said it could take two days... Not sure if that means they are doing a bodywork repair, or if they ordered a new rocker panel, and have to prep/spray. I will find out and let folks know. To date, both here and IWSTi, I seem to be the only one with the issue.

So, I dropped my car off this morning. The shop manager said they were simply going to do a repair on the rocker, apparently SOA would not approve replacement. He assured me they would sand the entire rocker down, then spray. In the meantime, I am driving a sweet, 2014 Nissan Versa. I will definitely appreciate my whip upon completion!

Finally got my car back this afternoon! A week of driving that Versa felt longer than the break in period! So, they removed the rocker panel, sanded, then sprayed. Color match seems to be spot on, and the repair has a lifetime guarantee.

So, just putting this out there... Two days before I took it in, I was dropping my wife off at a yoga class. When she gets out, she screamed bloody murder. Then proceeds to tell me my car cut her calf muscle again. I get out, and sure enough, it is bleeding pretty good. She had two other cut marks from previous times... I made the mistake in the moment of questioning if that could have caused the initial split. Did not go over well! She then tells me if my car is such an egg, why don't I sell the damn thing and buy a M3. Folks, my wife is not large, she is a fit 130lbs, 5' - 7". My question, do you think it is possible if she was continually grazing it with her calf when exiting could have caused the issue?

Regardless, she is home and I could not be happier!

Well, the repair lasted all of two f'ing weeks. Hand washed her yesterday, and noticed the rocker panel, same one, is on the verge of splitting again. WTF. I am going to try and persuade them to replace the rocker panel instead of repairing it... I can only assume that it will continue to split otherwise.

No, that part should be able to take a beating without splitting. I have sold a ton of these and never seen this, it must be a manufacturing defect. It should be repairable if done properly but I wouldn't blame you for pushing for replacement.
