options for tire size on stock rims and stock suspension

hey all, just wanted to get some ideas about varying my tire size. 2013 wrx, stock 17 inch wheels, and stock suspension except for some beefed up sway bars front and rear. stock tire size is 235/45r17. I'd like to know about doing a 245/45 or a 245/40. Basically i'd like a little bit more width. Does anyone foresee a problem with adding a centimeter across the tread path? I wouldn't think so, but I'd like to know if there's something I'm missing. Thanks.

a 245/45 would make your sidewall profile a bit taller and bring the speedo off a bit IIRC. And the 245/40 would be smaller...speedo would say you're going a lot faster than you are. See calculations below from here: Tire size calculator

    Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
    235/45-17 4.2in 12.7in 25.3in 79.6in 796 0.0%
    245/45-17 4.3in 12.8in 25.7in 80.7in 785 1.4%
    245/40-17 3.9in 12.4in 24.7in 77.6in 816 -2.4%

Honestly IMO, its not really worth it to go a different size on the stock wheels. 235/45 fit very well on them. A different size may cost you more money anyway for performance difference you probably won't even notice.

~.5"/corner increased contact patch isn't really going to make that much of a difference. Personally, unless you're willing to go 20mm wider, don't bother. You're better off spending the additional money on increased tire compound vs wider patch.
