Plastidip makes a glossifier now. If you don't like flat black, you can spray this stuff on there and it looks like gloss black. Doing my wheels in it to see if I like it. THEn painting them gloss black

I painted my wheels twice now and I really should have spend the money and gone with powder coating (awsome rock chips from NJ roads Also getting new tires installed by PepBoys employes) I could then plasti dip If I wanted to get away from gold. There are so may videos and a lot of infor on the DipYourCar forums about people mxing and matching base coats to change the color of the dip.

I thought about doing that bronze on my RPF1's. What color codes did you go with and about how long did it take?

I did 3 coats of black for the base coat and then roughly 7-8 coats of the copper metalizer on each wheel to get the desired look I wanted. All in all it took a couple hours from start to finish.

Honestly the only reason I ever plastidip anything is to experiment with colors. While powdercoating isnt as permanent as a tattoo I kind of look at it like that. Thinking about PCing my wheels neon green? then I plastidip it for a month and see if I like it. If I do, Ill do the rims, if I dont ill try another color.

I have always had good luck with Plasti-Dip. Over the passed few years I have Plasti-dipped my rims, hood scoops, my Subaru grill and some Harley accent pieces. It works best if you do it on a warm day as the cans do not seem to spray very well on cooler days. Living in upstate NY that leaves only about 1 week a year I can plasti-dip anything.

Did you decide to plasti-dip? I plasti-dipped black a couple weeks ago. Its holding up great so far. I like the matte texture better than the original painted finish.

You can always buy the a can black dip at Lowes ore Home Depot and mess around with it. I have seen more colors available at PepBoys including the Blaze Metalizers Gallon Buckets but if you really want the most choices go to DipYourCar and check out their vids.
