well as the title states ive had my '13 wrx for literally a week. 7 days. and theres a nice deep rock chip on the front of my hood already. ive read about paint being bad in subys but COME ON! really? i had my nissan frontier for 2 years. took it offroad had rocks pelted all over it. it looked brand new even when i traded it in on the wrx.....not a single chip in the paint
needless to say im a little pissed that my 1 week old car already has paint damage. its so annoying that im considering getting a clear bra installed at a local place around here that ive read some other forum members have used with success.
any recommendations about the chip before i get the clear bra installed? should i dab some touch up paint on it(already bought some) and then have the clear bra installed or should i let the chip go untouched under the clear bra? anyone with personal experience in this? its just a small little typical rock chip. its all the way through the paint not really something i can buff and wax out........
I too came from an 05 Frontier which got all chipped on the bed sides in front of the rear wheels. Ended up getting bed liner sprayed on the sides which worked well.
As for the wrx, yes, the paint is horrible and the clear is very soft and thin. I live in PA where they dump gravel on the roads all winter. If you want to feel better about your car I'll post a pic of mine at 11,000 miles.
For the chip, I'd just touch it up and get the clear bra.

Have you checked this (The opti-coat thread) out? I wish I had put it on my car when I bought it. I haven't used it but it sounds good. My car has a TON of paint chips all over the front.

never heard of that but it seems interesting. if i hadnt already purchased touch up paint i would probably buy this. although i only have one chip and am getting a clear bra installed this week so it might be overkill for me. if i get any more chips you can be sure ill get this. thanks for the info!
I had two 11 wrx's. bought my 13 sti and did clear bra the next day. Lol

so does $400 installed sound about right for a clear bra of the whole front end up to the start of the hood scoop?

That's not bad. I did the same thing as one of the posters. Bought the car on a Tuesday took delivery and the day off to go get it clear braed. Did the front end up to the hood scoop, full front bumper, side view mirrors, a pillar, rockers, door handle jams, door edges, rear bumper.

im sure they use quality materials. it comes with a 10 year warranty against bubbling, peeling, yellowing etc. and they have nothing but 5 star reviews from google and some members of this forum used them with nothing but great things to say. they initially quoted me $700 for the whole front end of the car but i dont want to spend that much so i talked them down to $400 for the front bumper, up to the scoop on the hood, side mirrors and front fenders inline with how far it goes up the hood
