    Engine cleaning

I live in the north east where they use a lot of salt on the roads on the winter. Due to the air scope there's a good amount of dried salt in my engine bay. Especially on the wires and bolts. I've tried to wipe it down by hand but not very successful. Does anyone know a safe way to clean the engine bay (desalt it if you will)?

Spray some engine cleaner/degreaser...hose it down.

I believe Drews was successful in desalting his engine by driving the car into a deep body of water.

I've always worried about troubleshooting a flooded part since the days when cars had points and distributors, so what I end up doing is starting with a stone cold motor, turn the car on, spray it down with Simple Green, wait, wait some more, and then hose it down all while the car is running. The idea is the part to troubleshoot first is the last part I hosed. So far so good. Disclaimer: not responsible for physical/mechanical harm to car or owner.

I also find that waiting is much better than scrubbing and cleaning, so I use the waiting method instead.

I use the waiting method to clean the whole car. It gets dirty, then I wait...then wait some more...I've been waiting for 2 years since I've had this STI.

I did actually run it through the car wash and then vacuum the inside about 2 months ago...that was literally the second time I washed this thing since I've had it. I'll wash it again after this "winter" is over.
